Who out there makes less than $50K and has an iPhone but no health insurance?
harry k asked:
How many of you, who make $50K a year have a flat screen TV, HD Cable service, an iPhone with a $70+ a month cell plan, and High Speed internet access, but can’t find the money to get their own health insurance?

Camera insurance

Great point
Perhaps they are college students….as your article suggests. Duh!
Not guilty on all counts.
Kind of. I make MUCH less than $50k/yr, have a flat screen TV, High Speed internet, No HD and No IPhone and no health insurance.
BUT…….
I’m also not complaining about the wealth of others.
I’m not complaining about having no insurance (because I will receive treatment anyway…but I don’t seek medical help unless I’m SERIOUSLY injured or ill either).
I don’t have a full time job as I am in the midst of a career change(temping while attending college to open up more opportunities).
I make just enough to get by. Have to forego the luxuries for a while but I’m looking at the long run.
Poverty, in this country, is being unable to buy a High Definition TV. Hence, the government is giving out coupons to get free digital converters for your analog tv.
Feeling guilty, Face?
Sweetie, before you judge, let’s talk about our situation
Our flat screen tv was a gift by a client who could not pay their bill so they gave us their flat screen TV to cover the remodelling costs.
We have internet access as our phone depends upon VOIP, and my husband uses it for his business.
Does that mean we can afford $800 for insurance? I don’t think so.
And before you cite the scads of $200 to $500 per month insurance plans, take a look at what they cover.
I make less than that, don’t have a flat screen, but I do have cable, DSL and an iPhone.
I need the phone for business (I needed one that had phone plus internet), and received a teacher’s discount. I need DSL for my work, as I’m self-employed.
And being self-employed, as an individual at my age I pay $5,000 a year for my health insurance. Yep. I’m just lucky that my situation and my frugal nature allows me to afford it. I haven’t taken a vacation in 15 years. I’m just grateful I don’t have to support a family, as I could not afford health insurance for them, even if I canceled the DSL, cable and phone.
Nope.
I have health insurance (I pay dearly for it). And I make well under $50K.
That said, it’s a pretty egregious leap of faith/ignorant stereotype to just assume that people who can’t afford health insurance are ALL buying frivolous things with the money they could have used for that purpose.
Have the 52 samsung hd, high speed, iPhone, suv, car, custom motorcycle, 3 dirt bikes and a boat, and my mortgage is almost paid off, how do I afford health insurance for my whole family? easy I’m Canadian hahahaha
